Is it Worth Getting Shot?

When we were still young our parents brought us to our pediatricians to have shots of vaccines to prevent certain disease from entering our body. Since babies have weaker immunity against sickness. Now that we’re grown-ups we don’t need to worry about those diseases since we already had shots before to prevent them. Wrong! You may believe nowadays that vaccines are only for babies or kids but the truth about is that vaccine are also essentials even in our adulthood. The reason is that: nobody is immune all disease and some vaccinations need continued follow-up to ensure their efficiency. In fact, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we become more susceptible to serious diseases caused by common infections as we grow older. Also, the older we get, the greater the chances that our immunity will be worned-off. Doctors say that an injection only hurts as much as a pinprick, and it’s true.

Sleep and the need for it

“I haven’t slept for 30 hours,” a friend proudly told me one day, as if it is anything to be proud of.

Lack of sleep causes many disruptions to the normal functioning of the body. If you have not slept for 30 hours just like my friend I mentioned above, you are more likely to become cranky, jittery and worse, you may lose your sense of reasoning.

More kids today stay up late at night to watch television or spend hours in front of the computers. These kids may not yet feel the negative effects of their staying up late now but interestingly, there are already existing post-conditions caused by their bad habit. Not having enough sleep can result to slower mental acumen and sluggishness, often manifested in school performance.

Did you know that having a healthy set of teeth can prolong your life?

Michael Roizen, a physician and book author, claims that healthy dental habits such as flossing should be included in the list of healthy activities like regular exercise and eating healthy foods.

Roizen’s contention is supported by some studies linking poor oral health to rheumatic heart disease. This is further sustained by research results showing how dental plaque producing bacteria can permeate the bloodstream. It is said these bacteria can obstruct blood vessels, resulting to heart disease.

Having good teeth is an asset. A perfect set of teeth can give you a toothy smile as well as helps in chewing and breaking down your food more easily, thus aiding food digestion and better nutrient absorption for the body.
