Many people commit the mistake of skipping their breakfast. In their hurry to get to their place of work or school on time, they turn their backs to the most important meal of the day.

Eating breakfast should be made a cardinal rule in everyday life. Nutrition experts attest that people who eat their breakfast function much better throughout the day. School children do better in school because they are more alert, retentive and active.

Not missing breakfast also leads to health benefits. Since you start the day with a properly nourished body, your immune system is able to work well to efficiently guard you from diseases.

To be sure with what we eat, we can bring  packed lunch like gourmet sandwiches. A typical wheat bread with tomatoes, lettuce, and a little meat filling will do the trick for a healthy diet. Also, before consuming anything check for the calories intake.

People suffering from hypertension, diabetes, obesity and kidney ailment should never reach for the saltshaker on the table.

Salt is used to give more flavor to the food we eat. However we must be careful not to use too much of it as it can cause or increase health risks.

Aside from not reaching for some extra salt on the dining table, we should also avoid consuming too many pre-packed foods since they contain a lot of salts and seasonings detrimental to health. Instant soups, chips and even certain brands of cereals contain amounts of salt way beyond the allowable proportions.

Another problem caused by high cholesterol is the blocking of the arteries, or arteriosclerosis. What happens when the arteries gets clogged is that blood flow will stop - resulting in blood clotting, and leading to stroke. Sometimes strokes can happen anytime without warning, and the patient will all of a sudden feel paralyzed.

One of the symptoms is chest pains (the medical term for this is Angina), which is a painful condition making the patient feel like something is pressed to his chest, therefore making breathing difficult. Before the chest pains, the patient might feel some pain first in the neck or jaw.

We know the benefits of including plant foods in our diet. But nonetheless I am presenting them again, to emphasize their importance:

- They boost our immune system
- They help make us look young
- They perk up the memory
- They contribute to better blood circulation
- They prevent certain types of cancer

In order to make children eat vegetables and fruits, parents should employ various techniques such as incorporating these food items in their daily recipes. Carrots, apples, raisins, peas and beans for instance can be included in daily meals by creatively preparing them in more appetizing ways.
