Are All Tanning Lotions Unsafe?
Tanning lotions have been getting a bad rap because they promote the practice of sunbathing, which causes damage to your skin, increasing your risk for cancer. However, this bad rap is not deserved by all tanning lotions since some actually do offer some level of protection.
Comparatively speaking, tanning lotions these days are a lot better than what people used to help tan themselves. Of course, better does not automatically mean really good for you. To make sure that you end up with the best tanning lotion that is suited for your skin type, but that will also not increase your risk for skin cancer, it is important to know the different kinds of tanning lotions. First of all, you should never ever use tanning promoters. These products cause cancer in mice and are not approved for distribution in the US.
You have no excuse using these because there are plenty of other tanning lotions in the market that are just as effective in getting a good tan, but won’t h harm your skin. A tanning lotions labeled as tanning promoter, is definitely NOT safe. However, not all tanning lotions are unsafe, instead of using tanning promoters, you can use tanning accelerators, self-tanning lotions, and bronzers. A tanning accelerator is simply your basic tanning lotion. Choose one that has a good moisturizer component. Self-tanning lotions will give you a tan without having to sunbathe , which means that this is a lot safer. Bronzers also allow you to get an appearance of a tan without having to go under the sun, but washes off easily.
